The Department of Public Service and Administration publishes the Public Service Vacancy Circular weekly, except during December. Start with the contents page, then open the department or province relevant to you. Use your PDF reader’s search function to look for terms such as cleaner, general worker, driver, messenger or administration clerk. These are search suggestions, not a guarantee that every circular includes those roles.

Read the requirements for each individual post. Schooling, experience, licences and other conditions differ between vacancies. Do not assume that all government jobs require Grade 12, or that every entry-level post accepts applicants without experience. Only apply where you meet the stated compulsory requirements.

Record the job title, reference number, work location, salary, closing date and application method. If a licence or professional registration is required, check the exact category and any validity conditions. Where an advertisement lists several centres, use the reference that belongs to your chosen centre.

DPSA government vacancies circular: 5 application steps

1. Prepare the correct form. Download the Z83 application form effective from 1 January 2021 using the link at the end of this guide. Complete the required sections accurately and follow the advertisement’s instructions for signing and submitting it.

2. Update your CV. Include your contact details, education, relevant training and work experience. Make sure the information agrees with your Z83. Describe experience honestly and give enough detail for the recruiting department to assess your suitability.

3. Check supporting documents. Read the specific advertisement before attaching certificates or other records. Requirements and the stage at which certified copies are requested can differ. Do not assume that every department uses the same document checklist.

4. Use the correct application route. Submit through the online portal, email address, postal address or hand-delivery point specified for that vacancy. Quote the exact reference number. Do not send your application to DPSA unless the advertised post is specifically within DPSA and directs you there.

5. Submit before the deadline. Check both the date and any stated closing time. Allow time for uploads or delivery, keep a copy of your application, and save an acknowledgement or submission reference where provided.

Before you submit

Check that your documents are readable, your contact number is correct and you have selected the right vacancy. A circular may remain available after some posts have closed, so downloading it does not mean all its vacancies are still open. Recheck the relevant department’s notices for amendments or withdrawals.

If something in an advertisement is unclear, contact the enquiry person listed for that post. The recruiting department handles vacancy-specific questions and the selection process; there is no single application deadline or recruitment timetable for the whole circular.
